R.I.P. “The Rev”

It’s pretty morbid when I have to start my first blog post on tumblr about yet another death of an entertainer, but it does give me something to talk about.  Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan (drummer for Avenged Sevenfold) was found dead in his Huntington Beach home at the young age of 28, Monday December 28th. Huntington Beach police were notified by the fire department who arrived on the scene around 1PM.  The cause of death was determined to be of “natural causes” but whether or not drugs played a part in the demise of the young drummer has yet to be ruled out.  All in all no matter how “fishy” The Rev’s death may seem, he was one of the greatest drummers to have come out of the woodworks this decade.  His amazing contributions to the rock community can be heard best on the band’s second album, Waking the Fallen, which was released in 2003 and more specifically in the songs Second Heartbeat and the breakdown at the end of Unholy Confessions.  It’s a sad day when a band has to make the decision whether or not to carry onward without one of their members or end things completely.  Replacing a band member hastily will only reflect poorly upon the band, making it seem as if the band and it’s revenue means more than their deceased member, but not moving forward and finding a replacement will seem as if they have given up the dream they all began together.  It indeed is a double edged sword and I hope that Avenged Sevenfold is able to keep the fire alive with their fans and for The Rev in a tasteful manner.  Rest in peace Jimmy Sullivan, Avenged Sevenfold and rock music won’t ever be the same without you.
